Lydia graduated in 2004 with a Masters of Social Work Degree from Wayne State University.  Lydia’s career has included working in the field of protective services as a family service worker, outpatient treatment in children’s mental health, crisis intervention worker providing emergency room assessments, single session and brief therapy services.  She was liaison for the community adolescent mental health beds and provided therapeutic intervention for adolescents discharging from the community mental health bed assessment program.  She worked as a specialized outpatient treatment provider for families impacted by intergenerational trauma with disrupted secure attachment.

Lydia’s career has also included training many professionals in the Theraplay® model of attachment informed therapies.  Theraplay is a therapist guided modality that incorporates play in the form of nurture, structure, engagement and developmentally appropriate challenges into the treatment setting.  Theraplay  is modeled after the healthy interaction found in a securely attached parent/infant dyad.  As with all attachment informed modalities, Lydia strives to be sensitively attuned, intuitively and consciously present, responsive and regulating to set the foundation for feelings of “felt safety.”  Lydia has been a presenter at the International Theraplay Conference in Chicago, IL (2016) and the International Pathways to Resilience IV in Cape Town, South Africa (2017).

Lydia is a member of the National Association of Social Workers (NASW), and a certified Theraplay® Practitioner maintaining a membership with the Theraplay Institute in Chicago, IL.  Lydia incorporates attachment informed modalities into the treatment process, such as Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Dyadic Developmental Psychotherapy (DDP) strategies, and meditative/mindfulness practices, while utilizing interpersonal relational theories to inform her practice.
