Joy Davies, MA, LPC

Joy provides professional counseling to individuals, families and groups. Her primary focus centers around issues relating to developmental trauma, adoption and attachment disorders.  She made the professional transition to counseling as a result of being an adoptive parent herself for the past 20 years. She understands a parent’s desire to restore and/or maintain peace in their homes and to create environments that are supportive to healthy parent and child relationships.

In 2011, Joy began working with parents to assist them in making the paradigm shift to therapeutic parenting. Shortly thereafter, she returned to school and earned a master’s degree in Professional Counseling from Wayne State University. Her treatment philosophy centers around trauma, attachment, and neurosequential focused therapies that focus on healing within the supportive structure of relationships.

Joy continues to enhance her professional competency with ongoing training by leading experts in the fields of attachment and trauma. In addition, she continues to pursue training in the Neurophysiology of Trauma, an area that she is especially interested in.

Currently, Joy divides her time spent in professional practice between Traverse City and Farmington Hills, Michigan. Aside from her private practice, she has also collaborated with several area adoption agencies to provide training on therapeutic parenting to their clientele as well as the state of Michigan’s Post Adoption Resource Centers.
